Throughout training and during these first few weeks of Green House Calls, our site in Concord has transformed from being somewhat awkward and uncertain to being comfortable and friendly. Our Energy Specialists have quickly adapted to each other and to their managers and have already shown their ability to absorb and accurately relay the information we taught them.

Each of our Energy Specialists, our Leaders in Field Training (LIFT), and our managers all come from different backgrounds and have different qualities; however, since the start of the program, these differences have been acknowledged and appreciated. As a site we have learned how to divide tasks, help each other with weaknesses, and build upon each other’s strengths. Each Energy Specialist team consists of two individuals with varying skill sets, allowing for a productive Green House Call as well as a learning environment for each Energy Specialist.

This program has been incredibly important for all of us in Concord in a number of ways. For one, all of us have learned at least a few new pieces of information about the things that damage the environment. We all appreciate the environmental education portion of our training because it allows us to further educate our friends and family and to help reduce the harmful behaviors of ourselves and others.

California Youth Energy Services is also important because while every organization has a goal, the mission of Rising Sun is to empower individuals to achieve environmental sustainability for themselves and their communities. Within a few short weeks, our team has not only helped make numerous homes more efficient, but we have helped break down the stereotype of young people being lazy and incompetent. Our Energy Specialist’s and LIFT have grown in their skill sets, confidence, and professionalism.

We love seeing this type of progress being made every day at Rising Sun and look forward to seeing even more.
