Alex Smith - Marketing & Branding Intern
Alexander Smith is currently a senior at San Francisco State University, working toward a major in Visual Communication and a minor in Marketing. Alexander joined RSEC during the summer of 2009 as the EDEN site Manager within the CYES program. He and his team of Energy Specialists gained support from residents in the San Lorenzo, San Leandro, and Castro Valley areas through informative and efficient free 'green house calls.'
As a part of his Marketing minor, Alexander was given the opportunity to further his education on environmental sustainability, and involvement in the green job sector by interning with Rising Sun this Fall as a part of the Marketing team. Utilizing his background in Visual Communication, Alexander is a part of the design team for RSEC banners, presentations, and other marketing materials.
Sabas Rodriguez - Program Management Intern
Sabas joined Rising Sun in June 2009 as the Outreach Coordinator
for the CYES Richmond site. He was able to reach the English and Spanish
speaking community through farmers markets, community events,
and community organizations. He loved the program so much that he
was given the opportunity to come back as an intern to help with the
management of Rising Suns programs.
Sabas is currently a Senior at UC Berkeley and will be graduating
in December with a B.A. in Cognitive Science. He has always been passionate
about using resources wisely and empowering youth, and will continue
to promote those messages throughout his life journey. C-YES we can!

Kabita joined RSEC in January 2009. She works to support RSEC staff with in-depth research on energy efficiency and the associated industries.
Josh Lehman - Development Intern
Josh joined RSEC in March 2009. He works to identify and foster new funding sources, and to maintain quality relationships with our current donors.
A graduate of San Francisco State University, Josh interned as a reporter for KQED's "The California Report." He is from California's Central Valley - a hotbed of water issues - and has lived in San Francisco for nine years.
Joseph Sorrentino - Media Research and Relationships Intern

Joseph joined Rising Sun in January 2009. He manages media contacts; researches national media coverage of green jobs, energy efficiency and weatherization industries; helps write national press releases; and helps coordinate media events.
For seven years Joseph managed business newspapers for Daily Journal Corporation in Los Angeles. In addition, he was a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines, such as California Real Estate Journal and High Country News. In 2007, for excellence in news writing, he was awarded a Ted Scripps Fellowship in environmental journalism by the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Angie Lee - Direct Outreach Lead Intern

Angie joined RSEC in January 2009. She coordinates the marketing team's outreach efforts and promotes the CYES program through various outreach activities such as attending events, tabling, and canvassing. Angie also works on research projects for the marketing team.
Angie graduated from U.C. Berkeley with two majors- Foresty & Natural Resources and Conservation Resource Studies. Inspired by her experience living in Hong Kong and studying in Northern Europe and Costa Rica, Angie developed an interest in urban ecology and sustainable city planning. Angie will be attending Duke University for a Masters of Environmental Management degree in Fall 2009.
Serena Parr - School Liaison Intern

Serena joined RSEC in January 2009. She establishes relationships with public and private schools throughout Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin counties. Serena's goals are twofold: to offer parents an opportunity to sign up for a free CYES 'green house call,' and to notify students about the youth employment opportunity CYES offers.
A prospective transfer student to UC Berkeley, Serena hopes to double-major in Media Studies and Environmental Studies.
Yekaterina Balagian - Business Relations Intern

Katerina joined RSEC in January 2009. She focuses on corporate research, property management company research and outreach, canvassing and permanent outreach partnerships, and outreach to police and planning departments. Katerina is an undergraduate student in Economics and Urban Planning, and aspires to work in Federal urban planning in the future.
Johanna Flynn-Sousa - Direct Outreach Intern

Johanna joined RSEC in January 2009. She represents CYES to the public in the Bay Area. She works to gaining support from residents, both at events and on the street, who want to sign up for CYES free 'green house calls'. She is very excited about the upcoming summer program!
Johanna is pursuing her MBA at Mills College in Oakland and will graduate this May. She is passionate about environmental issues and plans to continue working with organizations that have a positive impact on the world.
Zachary Kahn - Direct Outreach Intern

Zachary joined RSEC in February 2009. Zachary works directly with Bay Area communities to enroll them in the CYES summer program. Zachary was led to the green job sector through his interest in sustainable food chains. While working to educate people on the importance of knowing where and how one's food is produced, Zachary broadened his focus to greater sustainability efforts, including renewable energy and energy conservation. Zachary earned a B.S. in Cinema and Photography from Ithaca College in 2002.
Rising Sun Energy Center
Sophie Kendall joined Rising Sun in January 2009 as an intern to implement an organizational transition to Salesforce.com.
Sophie's background is in accounting and finance. Her previous work was with Nvidia Corporation and Roche Molecular Diagnostics where she was responsible for financial planning and analysis, and budgeting for the R&D and M&D groups. She was also responsible for financial reporting, and was the subject matter expert for the financial and project system modules of SAP.
Claire E. Borgeson - Donations Intern
Claire joined the Rising Sun team in January 2009. As the Donations Intern, she helps manage the charitable contributions process, ensuring that RSEC has the necessary equipment to make its programs successful.
Claire graduated from Colorado College in 2008, where she majored in Anthropology, played on the Women's Varsity Tennis team, mentored local youth in environmental issues, and studied abroad in Spain and Chile. Claire came to Rising Sun from Los Angeles, where she worked as an assistant at a law firm and volunteered with LA's immigrant population.
